The cultural identity experiences a boom. Emphasis is given to Dutch culture, traditions, architecture, design, heritage, food, religion, standards and values. The question is why this is now happening in the 21st century.
From various perspectives, we examine which emotional, aesthetic and political dimensions shape what is referred to as Dutch in this project. How is Dutch culture standardized? How does Dutch form and expression through rituals and popular culture? What role do religiosity and processes of secularisation play? How does Dutchness relate to the colonial past and the postcolonial present? In which linguistic forms does Dutchness come to expression?
