Our Research Groups

At the KNAW Humanities Cluster we have two groups, each with their own specialties. In addition, our three founding institutes focus on History, History of Knowledge, Literature (Huygens Institute), Global Labour History (IISH), Ethnology, and Linguistics (Meertens Institute). If you want to know more about their active research agendas, please visit the websites of the respective institutes via the links under Further Reading.

DHLab focuses on advancing humanities research through digital methods for which they bring together expertise from humanities, computational linguistics, social science and semantic web. These researchers have worked on automatically extracting information from text archives, improving historical image classification, and mapping online debates.

NL-Lab conducts research into Dutch culture and identity. They use innovative research methods to develop new perspectives on various aspects of identity formation in the Netherlands.
